There are a number of ways to work out if your weight is putting your health at risk. Two of the most popular and reliable indicators are your Body Mass Index (BMI) and your waist measurement.

Interpretation of BMI varies between people; depending on their ethnic origin, if they are going through puberty or are particularly muscular.
What your BMI means
BMI below 20 = Underweight You are underweight for your height and your health could be at risk. You do not need to be on a weight loss programme. Talk to your doctor or health professional about how you can reach a normal weight.
BMI 20 - 25 = Healthy weight Well done, you are an ideal weight for your height.
